This video only lasts 5 minutes, but it is meaningful and educational, it is a lesson taught to us through a love story, in a world where we continue to find ways to make it easier for us to connect with one another, but always results in us spending more time alone. Technology makes it so easy to connect with others, but do we really communicate with them?
The poem that Gary Turk presents in the video is beautiful, it starts with this:
“ I have 422 friends, yet I am lonely
I spoke to all of them every day, yet none of them really know me”
Do you feel sympathy with this? I do.
We share our daily lives online every day, we post what we wear, what we eat, what we drinks, but are we sharing these with our friends or we just simply post them online and hope that we could get some attention? This is so pathetic.
“When we open our computers, and there is a door that we shut
All these technology we have, it’s just an illusion
Community, companionship, a sense of inclusion
When you step away from this device of delusion, you are waking to see a world of confusion”
We live in a generation where everything is about technology, we start our day by checking our emails, we checking our phones on the way to school, we used computers at work, we don’t talk to each other anymore, all we can see are heads behind electronic products.
“Put your hands behind your head, step away from your phone!”
It’s time to look up of your phones and start some real conversations with real people. If you do, you will find a whole different world, a much better world.
In this film, Gary also shows us a possible love life of a man if he steps away from his cellphone. It’s a beautiful, romantic story that could happen to anyone if we choose to look up
“Be there in the moment that she gives you the look that you’ll remember forever as when love overtook
The time she first holds your hand, the first kiss your lips
The time you first disagree but still love
The time you don’t have to tell hundreds of what you just done, because you want to share the moment with just this one
The time you sell your computer , so you can buy a ring for the girl of your dreams who is now the real thing”
See how life could have been if you look up? Isn’t it wonderful? When you’re too busy looking down, you don’t see the chances that you miss.
So people, it’s time to look up, technology is not the enemy, we just need to know how to use it right.
Gary Turk also said:
We are the generation of idiots, smartphones and dumb people.
But do we really want this? Instead of staring at our phones all day, we can go out and have some fun, we can be surrounded by our dear friends, we can be smart again, we can be imaginative again!
