10 Series Paintings: Before and After
Most paintings that we have seen are just for one, and we hardly can interpret the meanings inside it. Now we collect the series paintings which are more than one, and we can clearly see the artists’ intentions through the before and after paintings, though some of them are still under discussion. For one work, “The Son of Man”, its creator Rene Magritte explained:
“At least it hides the face partly. Well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It’s something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.”
